The Government of India has launched several schemes for girl child welfare focusing on education, health, and financial security. These schemes aim to improve the child sex ratio and ensure equal opportunities for girls.
1. Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (SSY)
A small deposit scheme for girl children offering 8.2% interest rate. Account can be opened with a minimum deposit of Rs. 250. Matures after 21 years or on marriage after age 18.
2. Beti Bachao Beti Padhao
Multi-sectoral scheme focusing on survival, protection, and education of the girl child. Implemented in districts with low child sex ratio.
3. CBSE Udaan Scheme
Provides free online resources, tutorials, and mentorship to girl students of Classes 11 and 12 preparing for engineering entrance exams.
4. National Scheme of Incentives to Girls for Secondary Education
Provides Rs. 3,000 deposited in a bank account for SC/ST girls who pass Class 8 and enroll in Class 9.
